Nutritional Assessment and Counseling

“I believe food is medicine. Every day, what you feed your pet can either harm them or help them heal and thrive. That’s why I love talking with families about nutrition and finding the right diet to support each pet’s health.” Dr. Krueger, Owner and Founder of Hosanna Animal Hospital.

When evaluating your pet’s nutrition, we take a whole-pet approach. We look at their age, breed, weight, lifestyle, environment, health history, and even personality. It’s not just about asking, “What food are they eating?” but also about understanding, “How are they feeling? What’s their daily routine? What health concerns do we need to support?” This reflects our ongoing commitment to taking the time to know your pet truly.

During our assessment of your pet’s nutritional needs, Dr. Krueger and team will:

  • Review your pet’s current diet and treats.
  • Talk with you about mealtime habits and challenges.
  • Look at your pet’s skin, coat, weight, energy, and digestion.
  • Consider any health conditions (like arthritis, allergies, or kidney disease) that may benefit from specific nutritional support.

What happens after we assess your pet’s nutrition?

From there, we create a personalized nutrition plan that may include:

Guidance on balanced, whole-food diets (including gently cooked or home-prepared options).

Recommendations for high-quality commercial foods, if preferred.

Safe ways to add fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, or lean proteins.

Supplements or herbs that support your pet’s unique needs.

Education on what not to feed, and why.

Food is medicine. Every meal is an opportunity to support our pet’s health and wellness. When we prepare our own meals, we think about freshness, balance, and what makes us feel good, fuels us, and protects us. By doing the same for our pets, we provide them with the gift of strength, comfort, and longevity.
